Boozhoo. Welcome.

Boozhoo nindinawemaaganidoog! Anna ndizhnikaz. Curve Lake ndojibaa, Ottawa ndodaa. Niin mazinibii'igekwe.

Hello relatives! My name is Anna, I am a member of Curve Lake First Nation. I am an artist located in Ottawa.

My artwork comes in many forms, from acrylic paintings, to digitial art, to beadwork. To see examples of my work please visit my Gallery page. I post new work and work in progress on my Instagram page, so follow me there at @miskwaadesigns.

What does Miskwaa Designs mean?

Miskwaa means “red” in Nishnaabemwin. Red is one of the four colours of the medicine wheel, which is used in many Nishnaabe teachings. Because of its beauty and the personal and spiritual significance red holds for me as an artist, I chose to incorporate it into the name of my business.

FAQs

Do you take custom orders/commissions?

Sometimes - it all depends on how busy I am at the time, and what you would like! I have done commissioned tattoo designs, drawings, paintings, and beadwork. To inquire about custom orders, please click on my Contact page. If I am not accepting any orders at this time, my Contact page will be updated to let you know that. Otherwise, feel free to submit a request via the contact page and I will get back to you.

Can I share your work on my personal social media?

Yes. I appreciate people sharing work that they enjoy. Please attribute the work to Miskwaa Designs or Anna Heffernan, and tag @miskwaadesigns in the post if you are posting on Instagram. Miigwetch!

Can I use one of your designs as a tattoo?

Several of my pieces have been used as tattoos in the past. I appreciate when people ask for my permission first. In order to support my work, I require people to pay a licensing fee of $50 to use my work as a tattoo. If you go to my Shop page, you will find a listing called “Tattoo license”. If you would like to use one of my pieces as a tattoo, please purchase this item and let me know which piece you are going to have tattooed. If you would like to know whether others have used a piece in the past, feel free to contact me and I will let you know!

What is a limited edition print?

Limited edition means that when I decide to have a piece of art printed, I decide ahead of time how many of that piece can ultimately be created. Each of them must be signed and numbered. When you receive your print, you will see the edition number written on it - it will look like “1/100”. The first number indicates the number of this specific print (i.e. 1 is the first print made) and the second number indicates the edition size (100 is the total number of prints being made of this work in this size). Each listing in my shop will state the edition size of the print.

Can I use one of your designs to promote my business, product, or other venture?

Please contact me directly before using my work as a logo or to promote your business or sell a product or service.

Do your prints come in different sizes? What do the measurements mean?

Yes, the prints can be made in multiple sizes. If there is a specific size that you would like that is not on my website, please reach out to me via my Contact page to let me know. I cannot always print things in any size you like, but I will make an effort to make 2-3 different sizes available depending on demand.

The measurements reflect the printed area of the piece, not the border. An 8 x 10 print means that the printed area is 8 x 10 inches. It will also have a white border of 1 to 1 1/2 inches depending on the piece. I recommend waiting to find a frame for your piece until you have it in hand so you can get the correct size.
